Aspiring Pilot Society

is NOT a band

I make music under the name Aspiring Pilot Society. I’m not a band, I just have a stage name that sounds like a band name.

FAQ

Why?

That’s a very broad question with very broad answers. I could rant about the meaning of existence but I’m assuming that’s not what you came to this page for. Could you be a little more specific?

Why “Aspiring Pilot Society”?

I spent weeks (technically, I’ve been coming up with weird band names for years) coming up with potential names for my music. For a while I gave up and just released music under my real name, but eventually I decided I was done with that and wanted to rebrand, partly to help myself feel more free to experiment. Originally it didn’t really mean anything, I just came up with it one day. It’s partly inspired by the band Twenty One Pilots who I very much look up to and consider a big inspiration. Also, I like planes and want to fly one someday. In retrospect I think it has more meaning than even I originally thought. “Aspiring” could mean “ascending” much like planes do when they take flight. The name also reflects some of my more deep desires, I want to be more in control of my thoughts, my feelings, my life, to “pilot” them so to say. There’s lots of meaning to be found in a name that seems so deceptively simple.

What kind of music do you make?

I hate this question. Inevitably every answer must be some broad category that answers nothing or a comparison to some other band which discounts my own creativity. But if you’re looking for such answers I will begrudgingly provide them. I’d label my style as alternative rock. Some of my songs are more electronic and some are completely acoustic. Bands I’d consider myself similar to include Twenty One Pilots, Tally Hall, The Strokes, and Death Cab for Cutie.

Do you have an album?

I’m working on one. In the meantime I plan to release a few singles throughout the process. Stay tuned though.
